Because of Central Texas’ humid subtropical climate, the summer season tends to be really hot and dry. In this arid environment, a pile of trash in your neighbor’s backyard or a dried-up rose bush beside your house can act like a tinderbox and just a small spark can easily turn your entire home into ashes.
That small spark could come from a mother nature or from someone being careless – the thing is, you just don’t know! Like what happened to this couple from Round Rock, who unfortunately, lost their home when mother nature struck their home:
A Round Rock couple is now out of a home after their house on Dalea Street was struck by lightning and caught fire Thursday night.
The roof of the couple’s house collapsed with the fire and everything inside is destroyed. Every inch of the ground near the entrance and garage is covered with debris, and smoke alarms were still sounding more than 12 hours later.
Neighbors say it took firefighters nearly two hours to extinguish the fire. They say the damages caused by the fire were actually not that bad, but were made worse by the strong winds that caused the roof to blow off.
“I cannot imagine that this would be anything fixable. Just by looking at it, they’ll have to demolish the entire house and start over,” said neighbor Hayat Shaban.
As you can see, fire catalysts could come from anywhere. Your fire safety precautions at home would be useless if you’re not going to protect your home exteriors from the elements outside. That is why it is highly recommended for all residents of the Lone Star state to install exteriors that are fire resistant. One effective way to protect your home is to call a contractor and replace your roofing in Austin with CertainTeed Fire and Impact Resistant Shingles. This type of roofing is not only tough enough to withstand the force of a two-inch steel ball dropped from twenty feet without cracking, it also has a UL Class A fire resistance rating, ensuring you that your roof won’t easily catch fire.
